May’s Featured Featherston Folk – Tania Williams, founder of ArteSpiral

Tania Williams is a local artist and founder of ArteSpiral, an arts company offering a range of art classes and tours.  ArteSpiral offers basic drawing and painting skills workshops and courses, courses and classes tailored to the more experienced artist, and Mayan art tours.

I was really pleased to see that Tania has two exhibitions of her work scheduled for later this year – Portals of Infinity at the Deluxe Café, Kent Terrace Wellington running from 26th August to 9th September and Cats Ahoy – A Tale of Miss Mowgies Flying Adventures, showing more locally in Masterton at the Colours for Art Gallery in Kuripuni Shopping Village throughout September to early October.

Tania’s work very much reflects her lifelong fascination with Mayan culture, and there is also a fantastical and playful element to some of her work.  I think these two exhibitions will be well worth a visit – if you are unfamiliar with her work, take a look at Tania’s website, www.artespiral.co.nz to get an idea of what inspires her.  I can certainly recommend her drawing classes – drawing using the right side of the brain.  Really useful techniques, and ideal for the absolute beginner, like me!  I’ve survived two classes now, and even have some pictures of my hands I am rather proud of to prove it!
