It’s a packed show, alright!
I talk with the director of The Free China Junk, Robin Greenberg, ahead of the film’s premiere at Circus Cinema in Martinborough on 22nd June. It’s the story of “five young men who set out on a journey to find their own version of freedom. With no boat and no sailing experience, they apply to enter an international yacht race in an attempt to venture out of Formosa”. I was lucky enough to see the film prior to chatting with Robin, and can highly recommend heading to Circus on the 22nd to catch it on the big screen. It’s a beautiful tale of adventure, courage and friendship told through first hand interviews and glorious original colour footage taken in 1955. You can find out more about the event – which is a fundraiser to enable the completion of the film’s sequel, Return of the Free China Junk – and buy tickets here. There may be limited sales on the door on the day.
The Phoenix Foundation also make an appearance, with tracks from their new EP Tom’s Lunch and a nice chat with frontman Luke Buda.
Also, music from Passenger’s new album, Whispers and Caladh Nua performing Richard Thompson’s classic track, Beeswing.
So, pull up a chair by the fire and settle down for an evening of arts, entertainment and music with me, Lucy Cooper, on ReCooper8, tonight at 8pm (and repeated Thursday 26th at 8pm).
Missed the show? Don’t worry! Head along to here and download the podcast of this and other editions of ReCooper8.
