I’m excited to bring you news that the latest film from Wellington based filmmaker, Robin Greenberg, will be premiering at Circus Cinema in Martinborough on 22nd June at 3pm.

The Free China Junk is a beautiful feature-length documentary film about five young men who in 1955 set out on a journey to find “their own version of freedom.  With no boat and no sailing experience, they apply to enter an international yacht race in an attempt to venture out of Formosa”.  Blending contemporary interviews with superbly rich 16mm color footage of the trans-Pacific journey taken by one of the junk-mates, this is a wonderful tale about the spirit of adventure, courage and, I think, what it is to be free.

Funds raised at the premiere in Martinborough on the 22nd June will go towards finishing a sequel film, The Return of the Free China Junk.  You can buy your tickets through Robin’s blog or enquire at Circus Cinema.

Catch a full-length interview with Robin about the film on ReCooper8 at 8pm on 19th June on 92.7FM, Arrow FM, the Wairarapa’s community access radio station.
