This month, with a very heavy heart, Featherston must say goodbye to Heather Kary, our community centre’s terrific, indefatigable manager! For over three years now, bar a little break to have her gorgeous daughter Hannah, Heather’s dedication, energy and community spiritedness have made sure that the community centre is a warm and welcoming environment for all its visitors (even when some little tike has nicked the diesel to the generator and we have no heating!) Heather’s achievements at the Centre are considerable, not least successfully securing a significant level of funding for its wonderful new roof, which was completed earlier this year. Indeed, a big thanks must also be extended to Heather’s husband, Ewan, who very generously donated his time and skills as a quantity surveyor to project manage the Project: New Roof.
Through her work and organization, Heather has ensured that the Centre thrives as a popular venue for a range of classes, activities, workshops, seminars and events. Everyone who uses the Centre, and all her friends in Featherston and the Wairarapa, will miss Heather’s ready smile, tireless good humour, and seemingly boundless energy.
Thank you, Heather, for all you’ve done for the Centre and the Featherston Community.
Featherston’s loss is most certainly Christchurch’s gain, and we wish her, Ewan, and little Hannah, a wonderful and exciting future down south.
