This month on ReCooper8 I took a quick gander at Aurora Designs, Featherston’s bespoke hat shop, two doors up from Craft Country. According to Aurora’s site at http://www.felt.co.nz, “Aurora Designs specialises in felt cloches and crocheted cloches. Designs are based on the traditions and styles of the 1920s and 1930s but items are sized and priced for the modern wearer. Hats can also be made to order.” It’s my firm intention to persuade the brains behind Aurora Designs to allow me to interview her, hopefully for July’s show, so watch this space.

Flicking through one of the free papers the other week, I came across an article about Featherston resident, Richard Clark, and his battle with Motor Neurone Disease. Once a keen runner, Richard now needs the aid of crutches to help him walk. This hasn’t put him off from entering the 10km course of the Wellington Marathon – he will be pushed around the course in his wheel chair. I am moved by Richard’s courage and determination in the face of what is a cruel and debilitating condition. I wish him all the best at the marathon, and urge you to check out his blog and discover more of this man’s many creative talents.
