Back in February this year I had the pleasure of interviewing Reiner Schoenbrunn, a Featherston resident with a fascinating CV which includes writing the book on the Morris Minor motor in New Zealand, being one of a handful of experienced and acclaimed rostrum camera operators in… the world, and currently conserving the nation’s film and moving image for future generations as a Film Conservator at the New Zealand Film Archive. As Reiner and I drank beer and chatted during our first meeting, it became clear to me that I was going to have enough material to create two or even thee feature interviews. So, this is the first of what I hope to be a bit of a mini-series, and explores Reiner’s early fascination with film, his determination to pursue a career in film, and his experiences in the film industry in New Zealand.
